Mara Hoberman

As Project Manager, Mara Hoberman oversees the research, preparation, and publication of the Joan Mitchell Catalogue Raisonné. Since joining the project in 2015 as a Paris-based researcher, she has conducted object-based and archival research on Joan Mitchell’s paintings in private collections and public institutions across Europe. Previously, she served as the Project Manager for the Jasper Johns Catalogue Raisonné of Drawings and Curator at the Hunter College Art Galleries in New York.

A regular contributor to Artforum, Mara has also written on art for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, e-flux Criticism, Le Quotidien de L’Art, and Mémoire Universelle. Her essays and artist-interviews have been published by museums and galleries including SFMOMA, ICA Miami, Carriageworks, Jeu de Paume, Musée des Beaux Arts de Rennes, Musée de L’Orangerie, Palais de Tokyo, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Kunstmuseum Ravensburg, Middelheimmuseum, and the Swiss Institute. She is the editor of Transatlantique: Joan Mitchell (ER Publishing, 2026), a bilingual collection of essays by contemporary artists reflecting on the influence of Joan Mitchell.

Mara is a native New Yorker and lived in Paris from 2012–2026. She holds a BA from Wesleyan University and an MA in Art History from Hunter College-CUNY.
