Email

Josiah Gagosian is an artist and educator based in New Orleans, and in his role as Interim Artist-Centered Program Manager, he is responsible for the administration of the Joan Mitchell Center residency and public programming, and acts as a primary contact and resource for artists.

Josiah Gagosian was raised in the Pacific Northwest and studied painting and English Literature at the University of Oregon. A descendant of both Ottoman-Armenian converts to Mormonism and Mexican fronterizos, his work is rooted in themes of religion and mythos, history, genealogy, sexuality and the tangled understanding of identity that so often lies at the heart of intersectional experience. He merges drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture using complex, intentionally laborious processes intended to encourage prolonged engagement. Gagosian has resided in New Orleans since 2005. He completed his MFA at the University of New Orleans in 2020, where has also taught drawing, painting, and color theory. He is a former Artist-in-Residence at the Joan Mitchell Center where he co-curated the exhibition History or Premonition (2025) for the Center’s 10th anniversary and Joan Mitchell’s centennial.
