About Joey Fauerso

Raised in a Transcendental Meditation community in Fairfield, IA, Joey Fauerso received her BFA from the University of Iowa and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is an artist and Professor of Art at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Her paintings, videos, and installations have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at The Drawing Center, New York; The Museo de Arte Moderno in Medellin, Colombia; MASSMoCA; New Mexico State University Art Museum; and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Fauerso has been the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, including the Golden Foundation Grant, the Dallas Museum of Art’s Kimbrough Fund Award, the Yaddo Residency, the Roswell Artist-in-Residence (RAiR) Program, the Ucross Residency Grant, and a residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. Fauerso lives with her family in San Antonio, TX.

I like to make collections of things that can be arranged in different ways. I am interested in the use of modular components to convey an underlying mobility of signs and circulation of meaning. My subject matters are both personal and political, including issues dealing with gender, humor, figuration, and representation.”
