Joan Mitchell Center

To complement its grant programs and deepen its relationships with artists, in 2015 the Foundation opened the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans to host artist residencies, providing working and living spaces on the Center’s two-acre campus.

Residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center provide the crucial elements of time and space for artistic experimentation—while offering artists opportunities to engage with arts professionals, partner arts organizations, and others in the community. Eligible artists must either be based in New Orleans (for the last five years) or native to New Orleans, or be a former grant recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation based anywhere in the United States.

The application for 2025 residencies is now closed. More details are on the Residency page, linked below.

Events & Public Engagement

While the Center is generally closed to the public so that the artists can focus on their work, community members are invited to visit during our events, including Community Coffee meet-and-greets and seasonal Evening Open Studios.
