About Jarrad Mckay

Jarrad Mckay discovered his love for art as a student in New Orleans Public Schools. He enrolled in art classes and also attended New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). In addition to being involved with NOCCA, Mckay participated in different art activities and programs within the New Orleans Parish School system. He was introduced into the culture of the historical Mardi Gras Indians at a very early age. At the age of three, his grandfather handcrafted his first suit. Now in his adulthood, he still follows the same tradition and handcrafts his own suit. Mckay’s talent and creativity within the art field assisted him in becoming a tattoo artist at the age of 15, which in turn took his art to another level, as he began to put more focus into painting on canvas.

I use oil, acrylic, and spray paint on canvas in the majority of my pieces. My work is influenced by the way I grew up and New Orleans neighborhood nostalgia. My inspiration is drawn mainly from the community and just being outside as a kid growing up.”
