About Jenna Turner
Jenna Turner was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. In 2011, she graduated from the Alberta University for the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and in 2014, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University. In 2015, Jenna traveled to South Korea with an Alberta Foundation for the Arts Cultural Relations Grant to attend the Gyeonggi International Ceramics Biennial, where she was an exhibiting artist and presenter. Most recently, Jenna completed a year-long artist residency and exhibition at Medalta Potteries in Medicine Hat, Alberta, with an Individual Project Grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Jenna currently lives in New Orleans, where she maintains an active studio for ceramic commissions and her artistic practice.

Growing up on the Canadian prairies, I was surrounded by farms, small towns, and working-class families such as my own. The contrast in these lives between industrial spaces and the home is a constant thread found throughout my practice. I often pair durable mediums, such as ceramics and steel, with less permanent ones, such as bread and cloth, to create sculptures and installations that reflect aspects of gender identity, mental health, and what it means to belong.”
