Position Summary

The Artist-Centered Program Associate (ACPA) provides administrative and event support for the Joan Mitchell Center residency. The ACPA reports to the Artist-Centered Program Manager and works closely with the Studio Assistant and Digital Media Lab Assistant to provide support of programs and related events presented by the Foundation to support contemporary artists at the Joan Mitchell Center (JMC). The ACPA will also coordinate with programs, communications and finance and administration staff at the Joan Mitchell Foundation (JMF) to ensure that organizational protocols are being implemented across the NYC and New Orleans offices, and to build a working culture of communication, collaboration and support.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with an anticipated start date of mid-February. Please note, the Center will be closed the last two weeks of December.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

Administration and Programming:

  • Coordinate support for Artists-in-Residence (AIRs), guests, professional development consultants and the general public
  • Track, record and maintain all internal programmatic filing systems including regular data migration into database
  • Assist in AIR application process including review of applications for eligibility and completion and following up with artists as necessary
  • Prepare documents and reports for program committee review as needed
  • Support promotions and marketing of JMC programming through coordination with Communications department
  • Create weekly program newsletter for AIRs and manage written correspondence with the AIRs, consultants, and program applicants
  • Assist with coordinating and working all JMC events
  • Update and maintain program calendar of residency events, programs and projects
  • Coordinate logistics for off-site field trips, consultant-led professional development workshops and one-on-one meetings as well as studio visits
  • Schedule all intakes, exit interviews and meetings with the AIRS
  • Coordinate travel of AIRs, consultants and guests
  • Oversee intern and volunteer activities as needed
  • Organize and prepare welcome bags and other materials at JMC
  • Coordinate with other members of the Joan Mitchell Foundation (JMF) Programs team to ensure shared goals and expectations of the JMC

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts or humanities field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum three years working in an administrative capacity
  • Familiarity and ease with Mac based computer systems
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Workspace
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with data analyzation and representation
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, and public speaking
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proactive and solution driven
  • Flexible schedule (evenings and/or weekends)
  • History of relationship building with artists
  • High level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness with a strong work ethic
  • Commitment to the Joan Mitchell Foundation mission, vision, purpose and core values
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
